BCC Auto Program First to Meet New National Standards

January 22, 2013

The National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) has announced that Brevard Community College is the first auto technology program to achieve accreditation under the new NATEF automobile accreditation standards.

BCC has recertified as a Master Level training program and has held NATEF accreditation since 1986.

鈥淣ATEF is proud to recognize Brevard Community College and congratulate them on being the first automobile technology program to meet the updated NATEF automobile accreditation standards,鈥 said Trish Serratore, NATEF president.

鈥淭he new standards were updated in 2012 to reflect the latest standards of knowledge as defined by the industry to ensure the supply of qualified, entry-level automotive professionals well into the future.鈥

The 2012 automobile accreditation is now a three-tier accreditation model with a Maintenance and Light Repair level, an Automobile Service Technology level and the Master Automobile Service Technology level.

Programs may accredit at any or all of the levels by meeting the number of instructional hours, teaching the new and revised tasks, as well as having instructors ASE certified in the appropriate areas.

BCC offers more than 100 two-year degree and certificate programs and will start offering four-year bachelor degrees in Fall Term 2013 after becoming Eastern Florida State College on July 1.
